Speak.
Bifaria writes it.
Or translates it.

Dictation and translation that run on your iPhone and your computer. Your voice is turned into text on your device. Translation runs on your device too, unless you choose a cloud service, and then only the text goes to it.

iPhone: 14-day free trial. Mac, Windows and Linux: free and open source.

One app, two ways to speak

The name comes from Latin bifarius, "twofold". Every recording is one of two kinds, and the color tells you which.

Violet

Dictate

Speak in any language. Bifaria turns it into clean text with punctuation, numbers and no "um"s, then pastes it where your cursor is or copies it on iPhone.

  1. Press your hotkey, or double-tap the back of your iPhone
  2. Speak
  3. Press again. The text is ready.
Orange

Dictate & translate

Speak in your language and get the text in another one. Write to a colleague in English while you think in Ukrainian, Spanish or German.

  1. Use the translate hotkey or shortcut
  2. Speak in your language
  3. Get the translation, ready to send

Built for speed, kept on your device

Fast on your own chip

Parakeet runs on Apple's Neural Engine on iPhone and Mac. On Windows and Linux, Whisper uses your graphics card.

Translation without the internet

Apple's on-device translation on iPhone and Mac, and offline translation models on Windows and Linux. Each language downloads once.

Works in any app

On computers, a hotkey types into whatever you're using. On iPhone, Back Tap, the widget and the Dynamic Island start and stop a recording without opening Bifaria.

Text that's ready to send

Pick a style: natural speech, a prompt for AI tools, or word for word. "Two hundred and fifty" becomes 250, and "4 30 PM" becomes 4:30 PM.

History you control

Search, copy and fix past dictations while the recording plays. Keep audio and text, text only, or nothing at all.

Audio Lab

Drop in a voice memo or a video and get the transcript, or try a different model or translation on a recording you kept.

Your voice stays with you

Most dictation apps send your voice to a server and charge you every month for it. Your phone and your computer can do this work themselves, so Bifaria does it there.

  • Speech is turned into text on your device
  • Translation runs on your device too
  • The network is used only to download models
  • No account, no analytics on what you say

Don't take our word for it

The code of the computer app is public. Anyone can read exactly what it does with your voice.

Questions

Does it really work offline?

Yes. Once a speech model and your translation languages are downloaded, Bifaria needs no internet connection at all.

Which languages does it understand?

Parakeet covers 25 European languages, including English, Ukrainian, Spanish, German and French. Whisper covers about a hundred. Translation languages depend on the service you choose.

Why is the computer app free and the iPhone app paid?

The computer app started as an open-source project and stays that way. The iPhone app has App Store costs and its own iOS work behind it. There's no subscription for servers, because there are no servers: you pay for the app, not for processing your voice.

What happens when the iPhone trial ends?

New recordings need a plan. Your history, logs and copying keep working, and nothing is deleted.
